Contribution limits

There are limits on how much you can you put in to your super account. Check your contribution limits to make sure you won't exceed your cap for the financial year. If you're unsure whether you have reached your limit, log in your account or call us on 1800 060 312.

Please note that the contribution limits apply to all superannuation accounts in your name. legalsuper can only confirm whether you have reached the limit within your legalsuper account.

Age limits

  • You must be under 75 years of age to make personal contributions to super.
  • If you're between 64-75 years of age, you must confirm that you meet the 'work test' to be able to make contributions. This means you must be gainfully employed and have worked at least 40 hours over any consecutive 30 day period throughout the financial 2017-18 financial year. If you are between 64 - 75 and are making a personal contribution, please call us on 1800 060 312 to confirm whether you meet the work test.

If you have not confirmed you meet the 'work test' for the 2017-18 financial year, any personal contributions received during this period will be refunded.

Claiming a tax deduction

By making a personal contribution to your legalsuper account before the year’s end, it may be possible to claim a tax deduction.  To claim a tax deduction for your contributions, you must let us know before you lodge your tax return. To do this, check your eligibility and complete and return this form to legalsuper. Once we receive the ‘Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions’ we will send you a letter of acknowledgement. You will need this letter to complete your tax return.
