The MySuper balanced option in detail
- To maximise long-term investment returns while containing fluctuations in returns over shorter periods.
- To outperform an average annual return of CPI + 3.0% p.a. net of tax, investment and administration fees over rolling 10-year periods.
Offers a greater emphasis on assets that are likely to achieve higher returns but includes some lower-risk defensive assets to reduce short-term risks. This option is likely to produce a negative return in 3 to 4 years every 20 years.
Medium to High
Will suit investors looking for moderate to high returns over the medium to long-term, but who are prepared to accept some fluctuations in investment performance over shorter periods.
Minimum suggested time frame for holding the investment is 5 years.
The Trustee may adjust the asset mix or vary the investment strategy from time to time. This could include varying the mix between growth assets and defensive assets.
MySuper product dashboard

Representative member account
The investment return information is based on a representative member account balance of $50,000 each year in the MySuper balanced option. A representative member account balance assumes that:
- the 1 July balance each year is $50,000;
- no contributions are received; and
- the representative member account balance changes only due to the deduction of certain fees and costs.
The figures shown are less investment fees and administration fees, costs and taxes. Insurance fees and activity fees are not included in these calculations. Any return shown here may not be equivalent to the investment return reported elsewhere by the Fund and may not be the return credited to your account.
The return target is currently 3% p.a. above inflation, after fees and taxes, over rolling 10-year periods. Future returns are not guaranteed.
The net return over ten years to 30 June 2020 is 7.41% p.a.
Level of investment risk
Medium to high. The probability of this option earning a negative return is approximately every 3 to less than 4 years out of every 20 years. The higher the expected return target, the more often you would expect a year of negative returns.
Statement of fees & other costs
Fees and other costs for a member with a $50,000 balance: $627.60 per year as at 1 July 2020.
Comparison between return and target return
The graph allows you to compare the return from the MySuper balanced option to the return target over a 10-year period.
Past performance is not an indication of future returns.
The grey bars show the annual returns of the MySuper balanced option as an annual percentage earned over one year and as a rolling ten-year return to 30 June of each year. The returns are net of taxation, administration and investment fees and other costs.
Illustrated by the orange line, the Ten-year return is the return (net of taxation, administration and investment fees and other costs) calculated using the returns for each of the years in the ten-year period.
Ten-year return target
Illustrated by the teal/blue line, the Ten-year return target is the rolling ten-year target return (net of taxation, administration and investment fees and other costs) plus growth in the consumer price index (CPI) and is calculated using the target returns for each year in the prior ten-year period.
